Studio Stockelsdorf SS 2012
Title: Development of landscape based tourism in Stockelsdorf/Lübeck
Stockelsdorf borders directly on the city of Lübeck (200.000 inhabitants).

Actually Stockelsdorf has 17.113 inhabitants (31st Dec. 2010). Lots of them are commuters. They work in Hamburg/Lübeck and live in Stockelsdorf. The municipality of Stockelsdorf comprises 9 villages beside the central town. These are: Curau, Dissau, Eckhorst, Klein Parin, Malkendorf, Horsdorf, Krumbeck, Arfrade and Obernwohlde.
Task: This semester’s atelier project addresses the changes the municipality of Stockelsdorf near Lübeck has to face in the future. The landscape of Stockelsdorf offers a beautiful rural landscape with unique cultural and natural features. An analysis of the landscape character forms the basis for the evaluation of the potentials and constraints in the study area. In the first half of the semester, students learn to analyze the landscape by different criteria, significant cultural-historical landscape elements, important views as well as impacts to the visual quality of the landscape. Finally, students employ this information to develop criteria for evaluating the landscape opportunities and constraints.
In the second half of the semester, the students are asked to consider concepts for the sustainable development of landscape based tourism for Stockelsdorf. They should also incorporate available opportunities to promote the region and attract visitors to this nice landscape. The target groups are tourists and residents.
